I’m not a weight-conscious person, or at least I haven’t been for as long as I can remember. But lately I’ve been thinking of going on a diet (again!) and start eating right, and doing some exercise (or anything that’s remotely related to it such as walking and taking the stairs instead of the elevator). It’s about time I do something good for my heart (in the literal sense). And it’s about time I try to get rid of these annoying flabs.
No, I’m not just talking about losing weight, but also keeping fit. There’s a difference, see.
The past weeks I was thinking of enrolling myself in a fitness center. The reason? I thought that if I was enrolled in some gym (which would cost no less than P1,000 a month) I would have the motivation to work out regularly. That way, I can start thinking that I need to go to the gym in order for me to maximize the money I spent for it. I like the idea that being tied to a gym doesn’t leave me much of a choice. Haha.
I don’t know if my body is ready for something physically challenging though. The last time I hit the gym was five years ago. Back then I was still hyper enough to participate in strenuous activities, like cheerleading or sports. Today, let’s just say I’d rather just sit down or lie in bed. LOL. :D
But of course, choosing and deciding to become a member of a gym is not easy. I actually spent hours browsing through gym reviews on the Internet. So far, nothing is appealing to me. Here are the general ideas I got from the reviews I read:
- Gold’s Gym – Superb equipments and facilities, but too costly. They have a “buy one take one” 1-year membership promo for P25,000, so it comes down to only P1240 a month. (Information courtesy of Ganns) It’s a good deal. Even so, there’s no way I can afford the P25,000 one-time payment.
- Slimmer’s World- They also have this very attractive promo that gives you a choice between signing up for a 1-month, 3-months or 1-year membership (correct me if I’m wrong). It comes down to only about P1,000 a month but the major downside is: they already have too many members! This one person in a forum discussion actually said that there was a time when he couldn’t have his turn to use the equipments at the jam-packed gym. So after waiting awhile, he decided to just head home. LOL. And the other prominent negative feedback I read was, the old-time members usually bully the new ones!! That comment did it for me! (Paging, Ying! Totoo ba ‘to? Hahaha!)
- Fitness First - Their rates are veeeery expensive. I’d like to think their equipments are actually made of gold. ‘Nuff said.
- Eclipse Gym – So far, I think this is the best one. The rates are cheaper and the equipments are not bad, but they don’t have a branch open in Makati (yet). The nearest one is in Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong and I am not going all the way there. The travel itself is exercise!
So, okay, the odds are against me. For now, I’m not meant to join a gym. So what? Who cares? Big deal. Besides, who says I need to be a member of some gym so I can successfully trim down a few pounds?
What? Me? Bitter? I’m not bitter. Haha
All the research I did pushed me to just work out in a more natural way (that doesn’t require a membership fee) — jogging. Yay!
Yesterday, I, together with Deej and some regular runners, jogged our way around The Fort (where we had the vast area all to ourselves — as opposed to crowded, overpriced gyms.) and I have to say the feeling after all the running was nirvana. LOL. We’re hoping to make this an M-W-F thing.. All interested parties are welcome to join us! May I do a better job today than I did before. Haha.
And if I get tired of running, I can always go back to my weekly Badminton exercise. My pink racket is getting bored just pinned high against my bedroom wall. Haha. (Riz! Tuloy ba tayo sa Friday?) And if not badminton, why not work out with a jump rope? Or swim some laps? See? Proper exercise is not limited to gym workout. ;)
I swear I’m not bitter! Just being practical.

BITTER. in all caps! haha. badminton na tayo! Go!
yeah. let’s go! swim tayo! ilang laps lang, pagod ka na.:P i need to stay fit na rin and eat right…yes naman! hahaha
hay ako din i have those unnecessary flabs ahahah…kakainis! tamad din ako mag exercise at ang mahal mag gym! less rice daw will do..hehe
Hay, speaking of flabs… :grumpy: *looks at flabby tummy and arms* WAAAH I NEED TO EXERCISE!
Okay, I sorta do. I walk….and I do some exercises while watching TV (hahaha, couch potato!). I used to be enrolled in Gold’s Gym (they have this 1k/month promo for JG Summit employees last December up to March), but I discontinued it because of the lack of time to go. My brother and I had to wake up extra early to go to the gym in the morning and we have a hurried workout…I don’t want to go there at lunchtime or at night because I’m too tired or rushed too. This particular complaint also stems out from my work woes, but I will not go to that. :P
But seriously, I need EXERCISE! Jomar got me going with the badminton, which I promise to try soon. Work really is getting in the way — 9.6 hours, HELLO!?!?! For now, I think I’ll follow what Liz said — less rice. :P
I think less rice is true kung gusto mong mabawasan mga bilbil sa tiyan. Hehe. Hehe.
Pfft joni!! I forgot I have piano lessons with my pamangkin on Fridays (actually, since last Friday lang to hehe). Thursday nalang please pleaaaase?? Kayalang yun nga, 9-12pm. :-s Sila Bheng and Seyrah ba, what’s their schedule?
jonz… i’ve tried so hard but walang asenso… i slimmed a bit but then there are a lot of temptations around me (especially manager namin mahilig kumain! hahaha) haay… :) but i wanna try taking virgin coconut oil, try to do some research on the net, it can help US slim down KUNO… nakabuy na ko actually, pero mejo im scared pa… kwa pa ko buylo… hahaha :) tomorrow, ill start taking my virgin coconut oil atleast twice a day… :) hehehe..
indi nako maghambal ah… :yuck:
Joni may balak ka bang sumali sa mga bikini contest next summer? O baka pag mabilis ang improvement hahabol ka pa ngayon. Hehe. Goodluck on getting fit!
I also have my own battle of the bulge..hehe I don’t get to play basketball that often like I did back in the Philippines. I’m trying to get back to having exercise on a regular basis again. Hopefully I can start by next month. Best of luck to both of us. Hehe :D
My flabs are taking a life of their own. Que horror! LOL. :yummy:
BHENG: Oist! Next week ha! Badminton tayo nila Riz! :)
SARAH: Oi, saan maganda magswim? Gusto ko mag laps..kahit 2 laps lang. Hahahaha
LIZ: Less rice.. Waah. I wish kaya ko. :( I tried that before at pumayat nga ako. kaso di ko na kinaya. :dead:
TINA: Is Gold’s Gym really as good as they say? Buti pa kayo may promo! Onga, Less Rice na lang. haha
GEAN: Hindi nmn ako umiinom so I think I’m safe. Haha. Less Rice! True! But that’s difficult to do especially na sanay tayo mga Pilipino kumain ng rice. :D
RIZ: Yahuuu! I had fun last night, rhizagurl! ;)
JIREH: Virgin Coconut Oil…Ooooh. Yeah, they say that’s effective. I think it helps the digestive system and excretory system do their jobs better? Hehe! Di lang ko sure. :P
JENMAI: Huo. Mayo pa wala ka na lang hambalon. Hahahaha
DARWIN: Uu, may sasalihan akong bikini contest, baket? May reklamo ka? hahaha! Nakaligo ka na ba, ha, bata? LOL
JAYPEE: Basketball is always a good exercise. I wish I was still playing volleyball too. We used to play in La Salle all the time. Too bad we didn’t know each other back then. We might have played in the same covered court at the same time. Hehehe
CAMZ: Are they starting to form words too? LOL.
tara badminton tayp! san kayo naglalaro? i played before sa timog dun sa tabi ng masarap na yoghurt and ice cream house. haha wala rin yun exercise!
