  • An Apartment and a Wi-Fi Blessing

    16

A few days from now, my parents are coming all the way from Bacolod City to live with me. Finally we’re all gonna be together again. And because of that, I’ve been looking for weeks for an apartment that we could rent, and I just found the perfect one! It’s a little heavy on the pocket, but I trust God to do the provision. :)

I had to pack my stuff the whole night of Friday because we have to move the next day which is why I wasn’t able to join in the fun at Metrowalk (Shari and Darwin, thanks for inviting me! I really wanted to come, but I couldn’t. I hope to make it next time though. If there’s a “next time”.)

I’m loving the new 2-storey apartment mainly because of the cool breeze that’s blowing through the windows on the second floor. I know it’s not a big thing but I’m just glad I can sleep snugly at night from now on. And, look! The fan is not turned up a full notch anymore!

My Smartbro broadband connection has also been successfully transferred to my new home. I know I’ve badmouthed Smartbro not just once but twice in the past, but I have to commend their technicians and customer service for doing a fast and precise job. I requested relocation earlier this week and they responded right away, just like the first time. I still think Smartbro’s Internet connectivity is not so great, but they do have their strong points.

And yet Smartbro never fails to meet my expectation. Just more than an hour ago, my connection went down again. I heaved a sigh of disappointment knowing this is gonna go on for a while. I thought about trying out the airborne access I signed up for recently but then I remembered I’m not in a hotspot, so that’s out of the question — and yet I also thought searching for a wireless network connection was worth a try. So I pushed the wi-fi button on my laptop, hit Start > Connect To > Wireless Connection > Refresh Network List and…

  • Grease-y 18th Birthday

    7

Yesterday, my high school classmate Mels gave me a link to a Summer Nights video from the 1978 hit Grease starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. While Mels says Grease is one of her favorite musicals, I say the movie reminds me of five years ago when I turned 18 (Yes, I’m already 23. So what’s it to ya?).

For other debutantes, celebrating their 18th birthday (the once-in-a-lifetime debut party which is commonly celebrated by women in the Philippines) means formal gathering, formal wear, and formal programme. I, on the other hand, had a slightly different one. My family, my friends and I wanted my 18th birthday to be unique so we decided not to have the usual extravagant celebration (plus, we didn’t have the budget for something as bongga as that). The party had a 70’s theme. We made everyone wear 70’s clothes and sport 70’s hairdos (Well, not everyone. Most of my high school classmates were, as expected, timid and a bit non-participative).

Instead of doing the usual entourage and Waltz thing, the so-called Cotillion de Honor dance (where I was included) was to the tune of You’re The One That I Want (also a Grease soundtrack). Then my all-girls barkada performed a special dance number based on the Footloose OST — which is actually an 80’s thing.

I wish I had some photos to post here, but unfortunately they are all back home (hindi pa masyadong uso ang DigiCam nun!) and the videos taken then are a bit screwed up. The “professional” photographer/videographer we hired, apparently, was not so professional. Go figure.

  • Flabs, Flabs, Go Away!

    19

I’m not a weight-conscious person, or at least I haven’t been for as long as I can remember. But lately I’ve been thinking of going on a diet (again!) and start eating right, and doing some exercise (or anything that’s remotely related to it such as walking and taking the stairs instead of the elevator). It’s about time I do something good for my heart (in the literal sense). And it’s about time I try to get rid of these annoying flabs.

No, I’m not just talking about losing weight, but also keeping fit. There’s a difference, see.

The past weeks I was thinking of enrolling myself in a fitness center. The reason? I thought that if I was enrolled in some gym (which would cost no less than P1,000 a month) I would have the motivation to work out regularly. That way, I can start thinking that I need to go to the gym in order for me to maximize the money I spent for it. I like the idea that being tied to a gym doesn’t leave me much of a choice. Haha.

I don’t know if my body is ready for something physically challenging though. The last time I hit the gym was five years ago. Back then I was still hyper enough to participate in strenuous activities, like cheerleading or sports. Today, let’s just say I’d rather just sit down or lie in bed. LOL. :D

But of course, choosing and deciding to become a member of a gym is not easy. I actually spent hours browsing through gym reviews on the Internet. So far, nothing is appealing to me. Here are the general ideas I got from the reviews I read:
