Last Thursday, a friend lent me a copy of the latest reader’s digest to read while I wait for her to finish her makeover (hehe!) at SM Megamall. As I scanned and read my favorite departments such as “All In A Day’s Work” and “Laughter, the Best Medicine”, I stumbled upon an article about the famous novel, The Da Vinci Code (On the Trail of the Da Vinci Code). It told about how the number of visits at the Louvre Museum in Paris increased exponentially after the initial release of the said novel. Funny thing though, the article also mentioned the signs found at the museum’s popular spots which disproved some of its details as written in Dan Brown’s bestselling book.

After I read the article, I realized how it’s been a while since I first read The Da Vinci Code (which was back in September 2004) and how I hardly remember the story because I’m simply forgetful that way. I do remember that the plot’s one heck of an adventure but I don’t remember the specific details. So, right after I returned the digest to my friend, I headed to Powerbooks and bought a copy. Sheesh. What an impulse buyer! It’s no biggie. I wanted to reread the book since I wanna watch the upcoming movie anyway. And no one wants to miss out on that! Especially if the protagonist’s role is played by no other than the great Tom Hanks. :) But I should probably mention, I am not a believer of the “truth” behind the Holy Grail and the religious cover-up according to Brown nor am I a supporter of the secret brotherhood of the Priory of Sion and the Opus Dei. I know where my faith stands and I’m a strong believer of the Bible. It’s just that I love good ol’ mystery novels. :D
The Da Vinci Code premiers May 18, 2006 in the Philippines. Watch ‘em previews here.
While I was paying for the book at Powerbooks, the lady at the counter suddenly just rambled on and sales-talked me to get a Powercard, which I think is their version of a loyalty card. It sounded interesting enough until I tried to analyze how I’m gonna benefit from it and realized that I will not — I’m not really a frequent book buyer. So I turned to the ‘net to learn more about the bookstore’s promo and was struck by their book of the month.

It’s a book written by Macaulay Culkin! I didn’t know that Little Kevin of the hit Home Alone 1 & 2 is now a writer. Here’s an excerpt about the book:
“In a dizzying kaleidoscope of words and images, actor and writer Macauley Culkin takes readers on a twisted tour to the darkest corners of his fertile imagination. Part memoir, part rant, part comedic tour de force, Junior is full of the hard-won wisdom of Culkin’s quest to come to terms with the awesome pressures of childhood mega-stardom and family dysfunction…”
Very interesting. It’s just might be the next book I’m gonna buy.

da vinci code will open this weekend!!! the wait is overrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!! you know, the priest even included the movie in his sermon this sunday. he was trying to discourage people from seeing the movie, well maybe not discourage, but if he stressed one more time that it’s fiction i think was gonna gag. he’s just helping promote the film.. and that’s the last thing the church wants to do. heheh. we know it’s fiction. so what’s the deal? why worry so much about it by including it in the sermon? hehehe. shhheeeesh. i’m curious about junior. maybe i’ll get a copy =)
I would want to watch that movie. It depends naman.. if your faith is strong hindi ka madadala nang movie na to :)
